The Million Solar Roofs Initiative has the goal of installing 500 solar systems in Western North Carolina by 2010. It is part of a larger nationwide initiative to have 1 million solar systems installed across the country by 2010.

The committee is committed to educating the public on the possibilities of solar power through public educational forums, website outreach, and public events.
Volunteers are needed to gather information on houses in the area who are using Solar power and input this information on the North Carolina Renewable Energy Registry website:
